God's promise to you

“For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have REPLENISHED every sorrowful soul.”

Jeremiah 31:25

If you're struggling with your mental health – troubled, cast down or sorrowful – you don't have to stay there, because God has already promised restoration through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Your
cares

What are you facing?

You don't have to carry this alone

Life can weigh heavily on any of us. Sometimes it's bad news about someone or something we love that hits us without warning. Other times, it's the burdens we carry in silence, day after day, until our soul grows weary.

At Replenished Soul, we understand how heavy that burden can feel. We'd love to walk alongside you, to help you find what's at the heart of it and take steps towards change. Here are three struggles we often help with:

Worry & anxiety

A troubled heart

When anxiety gets a hold of us, our minds can get consumed with worry and begin to expect the worst, and we can feel constant fear and unease. Our chest can feel tight, we may struggle with restless sleep, and we may even start avoiding people and find it difficult to pray.

"Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things."Luke 10:41

Depression

Cast down in spirit

When depression sets in, a heaviness can settle that won't lift, our thoughts can turn negative, and we may feel low, empty or numb. We can feel drained, everyday tasks can become a chore, and we may even withdraw from people and begin to feel that God is far away.

"No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit."1 Samuel 1:15

Grief

A sorrowful soul

Grief can follow the loss of a loved one, a marriage or our health, and sorrow can come in waves, along with shock, anger or guilt. Our bodies can feel exhausted, our minds may keep asking ‘what if’, and we may even begin to question if God is really with us, as He promised.

"I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty."Ruth 1:21

These are just a few examples, but whatever you are facing, we are here to help.

Wider
context

Is it just me?

You are not the only one

When we're struggling with our mental health, it can feel very lonely. But it's far more common than we may realise, both in the wider community and in the church. Two UK surveys give a glimpse of the bigger picture. Behind every number is a real person – a mother, a sister, a daughter or a friend – carrying more than others can see.

Why many Christians stay silent

Many Christians feel they can't speak up. The same study helps explain:

  1. Stigma in the churchAlmost all the church leaders interviewed believed mental health issues are still stigmatised within the UK church.
  2. Harmful beliefsSome churchgoers believe mental illness comes from a lack of faith, so admitting a struggle can feel like admitting failure.

So many Christians end up carrying their struggles quietly and alone.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

God's
counsel

How can God's Word help?

The Bible is sufficient

God has not left us to work things out alone. In His Word He has given us everything we need to live well, even in the hardest seasons. Scripture speaks to the whole person – our thoughts, feelings, choices, health and relationship with Him – which is why everything we do at Replenished Soul begins and ends with the Word of God.

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword… and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."Hebrews 4:12

What is Biblical counselling?

Biblical counselling is the application of God’s Word to our circumstances, through the power of the Holy Spirit working directly on our hearts. In practice, that means:

  1. We listenWe take time to understand the whole picture and how it affects each part of life.
  2. We open God’s WordTogether, we discover what God says about your situation, and the hope He offers.
  3. We look to the heartWe gently explore the thoughts, beliefs and desires that lie beneath the struggle.
  4. We take steps of faithWe take small, practical steps each week, applying Scripture to everyday life.
Can God really help me?

Nothing is too hard for God

God made us, and He knows us better than we know ourselves. He understands our thoughts “afar off” (Psalm 139:2), before we even think them, and He knows every detail of our lives, right down to the hairs on our head.

"But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore."Luke 12:7

When Sarah doubted God’s promise, He asked, “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” (Genesis 18:14). The answer is still the same today. We can bring Him whatever we are facing and trust Him with it.

"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is."Jeremiah 17:7

Your soul can be replenished

God has promised to replenish every sorrowful soul. Everyone's journey is different, but here are some of the ways this may begin to show.

Peace

A quiet heart

As we bring our worries to the Lord, our minds may begin to settle, fear may loosen its grip, and we may find it easier to rest. Prayer can become a place of peace rather than pressure.

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you… Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."John 14:27

Hope

A lifted spirit

Little by little, the heaviness may begin to lift, our thoughts can become kinder and more truthful, and small steps can feel possible. We may even begin to feel God's presence again.

"Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope."Romans 15:13

Comfort

A comforted soul

Grief doesn't simply disappear, but over time it can change, as we learn to carry our sorrow with God rather than on our own. Our trust in Him may even grow deeper through the loss.

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever."John 14:16

In Jesus, true contentment can be found. We are here to help point the way.

"According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue."2 Peter 1:3
